Decentralisation, self-hosting, federated services… almost anyone in the software freedom community feels these are the way to go. But the real world looks a bit different, large platforms dominate the internet. That is due to a couple of factors, and most importantly due to digital provenance and identity remaining unsolved even if we did everything else right that people are working on today. In his talk, Georg Greve will talk about the largest of blind spots we’ve had for the longest time, what role Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI), blockchain and Bitcoin can play in addressing these issues, and what he himself is doing in this area – and where to start if you’re now considering to get involved in some of these exciting activities.
